4x4 HINTS AND TIPS
SNATCH STRAP – CORRECT USAGE TIPS |
|
• | The strap should be secured to both
the vehicle being recovered and the donor vehicle (strong towing
hooks). |
• | Hooking the strap over a tow ball or securing it
to an inferior towing hook is dangerous. |
• | All personnel well away from recovery area. Recovery
vehicle should be in low range 1st gear, immobilised vehicle low
range lst gear with the wheels turning or slipping in the mud/sand. |
• | The recovering vehicle drives forward slowly; the
strap becomes taught and then comes back on itself ejecting the
bogged vehicle. |
• | A blanket should be put over the strap during usage
to prevent whiplash if the strap breaks. |
• | The strap is only good for 12 recoveries; it then
loses its elasticity. |
• | A dirty strap can be washed in a washing machine
with cold water, no detergent and then dried naturally. As it is
made of nylon, keep it away from sunlight when stored. |
• | Attaching the strap to closed front or rear towing hooks requires the use of rated shackles. |
TIPS ON TYRE PRESSURES |
|
• |
ON ROAD 30psi all round for good ride quality. Increase to 35psi for spirited on road driving at 110km/hr. |
• | OFF ROAD For dry conditions use 28psi all round |
• | OFF ROAD IN WET AND SLIPPERY CONDITIONS 26psi all round to lengthen footprint |
• | OFF ROAD IN VERY WET AND SLIPPERY CONDITIONS You probably shouldn’t be there but if you are, deflate tyres to 22psi |
• | SAND 18psi to lengthen and broaden footprint to aid flotation |
• | TOWING If loading or towing, the rear pressures must be increased by up to 10psi |
